High Court: Dr. Slaa case set for next week
Rosina John
The High Court in Dar es Salaam will on August 21 start hearing a preliminary objection by Chadema secretary general Willibrod Slaa against a petition by Ms Rose Kamili, his estranged wife.
Ms Kamili went to court to contest a decision by Dr Slaa to marry another woman, Ms Josephine Mushumbusi.
In his preliminary objection, Dr Slaa claimed that Ms Kamili, also a Chadema Special Seat MP, has no authority to block the marriage because she is not his legal wife.Through his lawyer Philemon Mutakyamirwa, Dr Slaa wants the court to quash the petition on the ground that it was filed contrary to the law.
The preliminary objection would be heard in written form before judge Lawrence Kaduri who ordered the petitioner to file a response to the objection on September 4.
In the petition, Ms Kamili is asking the court to declare unlawful, null and void Dr Slaa’s new relationship, which the latter intended to formalise on July 21 in Karatu. She is also seeking the court’s declaration that the marriage between her and Dr Slaa still exists and that there cannot be another valid marriage besides it.
Dr Slaa is blessed with two children with the MP with whom he started relationship in 1985. According to Ms Kamili, Dr Slaa was a Roman Catholic Priest when they started the relationship.
