Dar es Salaam.

Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda has sacked five district development directors over various reasons, including under-performance and those charged in court over mismanagement of funds.

Others are leaving office on retirement or appointment to fill vacant positions following the establishment of new district councils, while others have been promoted to other positions.

Speaking in the city yesterday, the minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, (Regional Administration and Local Government Authorities), Ms Hawa Ghasia said the changes were meant to enhance accountability.

“The government will never hesitate to take further action where necessary in order to improve accountability to make officials more responsible to their actions,” said Ms Ghasia.

Directors who have been stripped off their positions over mismanagement are Mpangalukela Tatala (Geita) and Theonest Nyamhanga (Kishapu). Mr Willy Njau (Mwanga) had requested to be returned to his previous position due to ill-health and Eden Munisi (Morogoro) has been sacked over failure to supervise resources.

Others are Mhando Senyagwa (Kyela) who has been charged in court and Nicholaus Kileka (Ngorongoro) who have been accused by the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) of engaging in corruption.
