Singida. The police in Singida Region have arrested a small-scale miner, 46, for allegedly killing his wife Tatu Mathias after suspecting her of infidelity.

Mr Lazaro is accused of killing his wife on Sunday evening.

Singida Region Police Commander Linus Sinzumwa told reporters that preliminary investigations showed that there was a misunderstanding between them on a love affair, which caused the suspect to take the law in his hands.

The man is accused of stabbing his wife using a sharp object in the stomach, thus causing her death on the spot.

“He was accusing his wife of sleeping with other men. We believe this was the source of the misunderstanding between them,” said RPC Sinzumwa.

He noted that the investigations were still going on and the suspect was arrested a few minutes after the incident occurred.

He will be arraigned any time from now.

Meanwhile, a lorry  caught fire at Nkwae Village in Singida District. The lorry was travelling to Mwanza from Dar es Salaam.

The RPC said it was loaded with second-hand clothes and shoes and that a few of them were salvaged.

“We do not know yet the value of the property, which was destroyed by fire, but what I can say is that a few second-hand clothes and shoes were rescued,” said RPC Sinzumwa.

He explained that they were still investigating to establish the cause of the fire. But so far, we are told it might have been an electrical fault,” said the RPC.
