Written by JIMMY LWANGILI
POLICE in Dar es Salaam are holding five women in connection with illegal possession of narcotic drugs.
The women were found in possession of the contraband at Uhuru Park Bar in Kinondoni Municipality. The women are suspected to be criminals who lace the drinks customers consume with narcotic drugs so they get intoxicated and lose self control.
The upshot, the police suspect, is for the women to steal from the drugged customers. The Kinondoni Regional Police Commander (RPC), Mr Charles Kenyela, confirmed the arrests to journalists in Dar es Salaam.
"Good Samaritans informed patrol police on the presence of the offending women who were in the area during a night shift," explained the RPC. Mr Kenyela mentioned the arrested suspects as Magreth Temo (33), Nadra Fitii (30), Rosemary John (33), Rahel John (31) and Lisa Jonathan (31).
The women live in various localities in the city of Dar es Salaam. "The suspects were found with narcotic drug pellets and white powder in plastic bags. The police suspected the substances to be narcotic drugs," the RPC said. The police also nabbed two men in connection with a similar offence at Magomeni Kagera in Kinondoni Municipality the same night.
"The suspects were identified as Fahim Abdul (23) and Jafari Said (18). The two were found in possession of 20 pellets of narcortic drugs," said Mr Kenyela. In another development, the RPC said the police officers arrested a further seven suspects in possession of bhang and an illicit liquor (gongo) at Magomeni Kagera and Mabibo Jeshini in the municipality of Kinondoni.
The suspects were found with 1.5kg of marijuana and 15 litres of gongo. Mr Kenyela identified the suspects as Bushiri Ismail (32), Hussein Nobat (27), Waziri Juma (33), Jumanne Athumani and three others, whose names were not obtained immediately.
