Dar es Salaam: MP`s corruption case for Feb 15

The Kisutu Resident Magistrates Court in Dar es Salaam yesterday said that hearing of the corruption case facing Bahi Member of Parliament, Omary Badwel (43) will continue on February 15, this year.
The prosecution led by Lizzy Kiwia from the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) informed the court that the case came for mention so as to set another date for its hearing.
Resident Magistrate Ritha Tarimo who is presiding over the case adjourned it until February 15, this year when it comes up for hearing.
According to the charge sheet, it is alleged that between 30 May and 2 June, last year, in Dar es Salaam the accused being a member of the Parliament for Bahi Constituency and a member of the Parliamentary Local Authorities Accounting Committee (LAAC) and therefore a public officer within the meaning of the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Act, corruptly solicited a sum of 8m/-.
It was alleged that the accused solicited the said amount from Sipora Liana, a District Executive Director of Mkuranga District Council as an inducement to influence members of the committee to approve the Council’s 2011/2012 financial report.
On the second count, it was alleged that on June 2, this year, at Peacock Hotel, Ilala District in Dar es Salaam, the accused corruptly received a sum of one million shillings, from Mkuranga District Council Director, Sipora Liana as part of a strategy to push for the approval of the council financial report.
