RUKWA: Former nun arraigned for adultery
Written by DAILY NEWS Correspondent in Sumbawanga
Ms Sindani, who used to belong to the Sisters of Our Lady Queen of Africa, a local congregation of consecrated life in Sumbawanga Diocese, did quit the order voluntarily over two years ago. Sindani’s claimant, Ms Asteria Mgabo who resides at Kantalamba area has opened a civil case number 1/2013 at Sumbawanga Primary Court, demanding the defendant to pay her 3m/- for infidelity.
The Primary Court magistrate , Mr Meddy Mkinga, who presided over the case on Tuesday this week was compelled to adjourn it until January 21, this year, when it will come up for another mention, after the defendant failed to appear in court.
Eye witnesses say that shortly before the court session began, the defendant was seen around the court premises but she vanished into thin air, then reappeared after the case was adjourned. According the plaintiff, Asteria caught the defendant with her husband in one of the rooms at Chipu Guest House in Kantalamba area.
Some of the nuns who preferred strictly anonymity admitted that the defendant was a Roman Catholic nun who voluntarily quit her congregation two years ago. “We know her as a former nun.
Actually she was not compelled to leave the congregation but she did it on her own accord, now we will pray for her ……. We will continue remembering her in prayers“, remarked one the the nuns who claimed to know her well. The case has attracted many people living in Sumbawanga township, as rumours about former nun’s infidelity had spread around.
