UGANDA: Entebbe rape suspects jailed
By Martin Ssebuyira, Entebbe.
Court in Entebbe has remanded two suspected gun-wielding rapists to Kigo Prison over rape and aggravated robbery.
Mr Eddy Ntambala, a businessman and Mr Latif Ngabirano, a real estate developer, were charged in Entebbe Court for allegedly raping two women at gunpoint.
Entebbe Grade 1 Magistrate Beatrice Kayinza read the charges to the suspects but stopped them from saying a word because the offences they committed can only be heard in the High Court. According to police, the suspects, also known to be Entebbe socialites, were arrested after two different girls opened cases against them.
“We had previously got information that the two suspects were habitual rapists but we hadn’t got concrete information to arrest them,” Entebbe Police Commander Edgar Nyabongo said. According to the victims’ statements, the two men lured the girls after offering to buy them beers.
Mr Nyabongo said they trailed the suspects using information from the victims.
