Dar es Salaam: Former army officers charged with murder

THREE people, including two former members of the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF), were brought before the same court yesterday charged with murder of driver of Bajaj, Yohana Syprian Mbelwa.

The trio, Mt Noah Moses Lusivuni (28) and Mt Raphael Sebastian Masha (29), both from Lugalo 501KJ and watchman from Mbezi Beach, Reverian Anatori Paul (40), were not allowed to enter plea to the charge because the case will be tried by the High Court.

Reading the charge before Resident Magistrate Binge Mashabara, State Attorney Leonard Chalo alleged that the three accused persons committed the offence on April 3, this year, at Kawe area in Kinondoni District in the city. It is alleged that the murder fuelled chaos on the material day at Kawe neighbourhood. Some residents invaded the police station at the area with intent of punishing those allegedly involved in the killing of the Bajaj driver.

Already ten people have been charged with several criminal offences, including conspiracy to commit an offence, unlawful assembly, rioting, attacking police officials and damaging motor vehicles which have been kept at the police station as exhibits.
