Dar es Salaam resident charged with murdering friend

A DAR ES SALAAM Resident, Conrad Alfred Leo (33), appeared before the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam on Thursday charged with murdering his friend, Ayoub Mlay.
Leo, an accountant residing at Mbezi Beach, is alleged to have shot Mr Mlay, a renowned businessman in Dar es Salaam and Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region, using a pistol, during a confrontation which allegedly occurred few days ago at a bar.
The accused person was not allowed to enter plea to the charge because the case will be tried by the High Court. Senior Resident Magistrate Helen Riwa informed the accused person that the offence he was being charged with was not bailable.
She ordered him to go to remand until June 6, this year, when the case will be mentioned. Investigations into the case, according to the prosecution, have not been completed.
Reading the charge in question, State Attorney Leonard Chalo told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 18, this year, at Ambrosia Bar, Mbezi Beach area in Kinondoni District in the City.
It alleged that on the material day, the accused person arrived at the bar and found the deceased at the counter, taking a drink with other friends. The deceased reportedly snatched Mr Leo’s spectacles.
Leo is claimed to become furious and the two allegedly were involved in a heated exchange and a confrontation ensued. It is said that the two exchanged blows. The accused person was reportedly overpowered and pushed down.
During the fracas it is alleged that Mr Leo’s gun fired and the bullet hit Mr Mlay who was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was later declared dead.
