Dodoma: Lawmaker censures government over failure to prevent albino killings

Lindi Urban Member of Parliament (CUF), Mr Salim Khalfan Barwani, has castigated the government over failure to prevent albino killings in the country, threatening to sue it at the international community.

Contributing to the Home Affairs budget proposals for the 2013/14 financial year on Tuesday, Mr Barwani noted that it was dismaying that the minister did not say anything on albino killings in his budget speech.

“It is very disappointing that despite the calamities which have been befalling albinos, the minister did not bother to put even a single line in his speech about this serious issue,” he said.

He noted that this was a clear indication that the government did not give the issue the weight it deserves and that was why albino killings continued unabated.

Speaking emotionally, Mr Barwani, himself an albino, said that the minister talked about killings of elders in eight pages, but there was not a single line in the entire budget on albino killings.

“This shows that the government is an accomplice,” he claimed.
