We do not trust Segerea prison head, remandee tells Kisutu court
An accused charged with the murder of Dr Sengondo Mvungi last week claimed that remandees do not trust the head of Segerea prison where they are now remanded.
He told the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s court in Dar es Salaam that this is because he interrogates them on the same questions previously asked by the police.
The prosecution, led by State Attorney Charles Anindo, informed the court that investigations into the case are still progressing. He said they have added another suspect, George Mulugo (28), a resident of Vingunguti.
Accused Ikondya Ngosha claimed that, they wonder how many times they are supposed to be interrogated because they have already been interrogated by the police.
However, the head of Segerea prison was asking them the same questions about the case, he claimed.
Another accused, Chibago Magozi, asked the court if they have the right to drink water while in remand prison because one day a prison warder snatched water from him while he was drinking it.
Responding, the prisoner warden had claimed that they only restrict them from drinking water which is not examined for safety.
Kisutu Resident Magistrate Geni Dudu, who presides over the case, told the accused that they were still in remand prison. So they have all the right to drink water. He therefore told the prison warder to give the accused drinking water.
Besides Mulogo, other accused persons are Longishu Losingo (29), a resident of Kariakoo Msimbazi. He is said to have been the watchman at the deceased's residence.
The second is Chibago Magozi (32), a businessman from Vingunguti Machinjioni; John Mayunga (56), a businessman from Kiwalani and Juma Kangungu (29), who resides at Vingunguti.
Others are Masunga Msukuma (40), a driver residing at Kitunda; Paul Mdionondo (30), a businessman from Tabata Darajani and Mianda Mlewa (40), a businessman from Vingunguti.
Yet others are Zacharia Msese, a trader at Buguruni; Msigwa Matonya, who resides at Vingunguti and Ahmed Kitabu, a resident of Mwananyamala.
It was alleged that on November 3, last year, at Msakuzi Kiswegere area in Kinondoni District in the city, the accused murdered Dr Mvungi (61), who was a member of the Constitution Review Commission (CRC).
All accused are still remanded in custody and the case will come up for mention on February 13, this year.
