Anti-corruption watchdog accuses Njombe DAS over abuse of power

The Njombe Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau has sued the Njombe District Administrative Secretary Evagry Keiya and the accounting officer with Njombe District Commissioner, Bory Saronge, at the Njombe District Court for allegedly abusing their power swindling at least 2,784,681m/- being public funds.
According to the PCCB commander in Njombe region Charles Nakembetwa case number 44 of 2013 charged the accused for blotching the national economy as well as conspiracy and swindling the said amount of money illegally.
He said the suspects were allegedly to have swindled the money to buy fuel for their different personal activities; the money was intended for implementation of various development activities in the district.
"We have opened the case against the two district officials because they were misusing their powers, they destroy public property with conspiracy for their own benefits," said Nakembetwa.
Meanwhile, Nakembetwa has warned civil servants and other people implicated in the actions of lobbying, soliciting and receiving bribes to stop the practice immediately urging citizens to report to PCCB all people who engage in such acts.
He said so far they had filed about 16 corruption cases since they started working in the Njombe region from July last year to May this year. Saying most of those cases implicated top government officials from various levels were in those cases.
He said as way of controlling corruption control in the country, which has become rampant, PCCB was providing educational awareness to community by holding meetings, debates and seminars on telling tem the negative impacts of corruption. They include the introduction of anti-corruption clubs in schools whose object is to enable communities to understand the effects of corruption and thus deny vehemently.
According to her, PCCB also conducts various surveys to identify factors that lead people to request or receive bribes, trying to influence them work for the purpose of controlling all loopholes of corruption in society.
