Decision reached to divide Musoma into two councils

Musoma. The Regional Consultative Council (RCC) in Mara yesterday agreed to split Musoma District into two councils. The meeting, which was chaired by the acting Mara regional commissioner, Mr Jackson Msome, came to the conclusion that there should be Butiama and Musoma Rural councils each with 17 wards. The Mara RCC’s decision would now be sent to higher authorities so that the approval could be sent to local government authorities for the last approval.
The committee convened a special meeting to approve the proposal made by the Musoma District Consultative Council (DCC). During the RCC meeting, members also proposed that the headquarters for the Musoma Rural Council be constructed at Murangi Village and not at Suguti Village as proposed by the DCC.
Speaking at the meeting, the Bunda District Commissioner, Mr Joshua Mirumbe, said there is some important social service infrastructure at Murangi, giving the village an advantage to be the council’s headquarters.
“Currently, the village has a big health centre which can be transformed into a district hospital,” the DC said, adding that water services are reliable at Murangi compared to Suguti Village.
The Mara regional planning officer, Mr Nesphori Bwana, told the meeting that if all goes well, Butiama District will have a parliamentary constituency in 2015.
