Judgment on human trafficking next month says Kisutu court

The Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam yesterday announced November 2 as the day it will give judgment on human trafficking case against Salim Alasad (60), who is director of Salex Tannery Company Ltd.
Alasad is accused of trafficking Abduswamadu Omary from Tanzania to Yemen and of enslaving the victim on reaching Yemen, instead of offering him a job he had earlier promised.
According to the charge sheet, it was alleged that the accused committed the offence on August 8, 2010.
The court said the case will be mentioned at the court on November 1, followed by a ruling on November 2, this year.
The case, which yesterday came for overview after two sides submitted their evidence, Defense Counsel Majura Magafu asked the court to dismiss the evidence provided because it failed to prove the case.
Magistrate Ilvin Mgeta declared in the court that the provided evidence had been proved beyond reasonable doubt and requested the court to take it.
According to Mgeta the accused, Alasad, had also admitted that he transported Abduswamadu Omary from Tanzania to Yemen.
Earlier, there were two suspects, Thabit Abdallah (41) and Alasad himself, in the case but the charges against the former were dismissed.
In the second charge, it is alleged that on February 23 and August 8 this year, at different locations in Dar es Salaam and Arusha, the accused invested money in different businesses while knowing that the proceeds were from human trafficking.
The accused Alasad is still in custody.
