KENYA: Judge summons Iteere over Moi son dispute
By NATION REPORTER
A judge has been asked to summon police boss Mathew Iteere to explain the failure by police to arrest retired President Moi’s son Philip.
The application was made by Mr Moi’s estranged wife, Ms Rossana Pluda, who is seeking two-month upkeep money from him.
Ms Pluda accused Mr Iteere of failing to enforce the arrest orders issued by Mr Justice GBM Kariuki of the High Court on October 4.
The court order and the warrant of arrest were served on the Commissioner of Police on October 18.
Failed to execute order
The court commanded the police to arrest Mr Moi and take him to Industrial Area Prison in Nairobi for civil jail.
“To date the Commissioner of Police has refused to execute the warrant in total disregard of the court order,” said Ms Pluda.
The judge issued orders directing that Mr Moi be arrested for failing to pay two month’s upkeep — September and October — arrears of Sh400,000.
Judge Kariuki had given Mr Moi seven days to pay the cash, failure to which he would be arrested and sent to jail.
