Suspected grenade attack on church injures 11 in Kenya’s Garissa

The Kenya Red Cross says at least 11 people have been injured in a suspected grenade attack on the Utawala Interdenominational Church in the eastern town of Garissa.

Three of the people wounded in the Sunday attack are in critical condition, the Red Cross and local media said.

Gunfire could still be heard from the scene of the attack.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast.

The church is located in a police compound, but no police official was immediately available to comment.

In July, 17 people were killed in attacks on two churches in Garissa.

Also in September, a grenade attack on a church in the capital Nairobi killed a nine-year-old boy and wounded several others.
