Kenya: Nine year old girl defiled, suspect in custody

Police are holding a man suspected of defiling a nine year-old girl in Kilifi.

Kilifi deputy police boss Ben Changula confirmed on Thursday that the suspect is being held at Mtwapa Police Station.

He said that the suspect, who is a middle aged man, will be arraigned at Shanzu court in Kilifi Friday.

"We currently have the suspect in custody and he will be arraigned in court tomorrow (Friday),” said Mr Changulo.

He said that they found the suspect at his home in Soko Mjinga Estate after receiving information that an irate crowd that had gone to his house to mete out 'justice'.

Mr Changulo said investigations revealed that the minor was defiled at the beginning of the year at the suspect's house and was treated at a Mtwapa clinic.

He noted that the suspect has undergone medical examination pending his appearance in court.

The incident comes a day after a suspect was charged for the murder and defilement of a four-year old girl at Kizingo Estate in Mombasa.
