TANZANIA: Chief Justice recommends regular training good for judges

Written by MOSES MATTHEW in Mwanza.

THE Court Service Commission has called on judges to adapt to constant learning behaviour in order to improve their performances when serving the public.

Addressing District and Regional Ethics Committees in Mwanza, the Court Service Commission Chairman Chief Justice, Othman Chande said that his commission would continue to support education for judges which would in turn expand their decision making horizon for fair judgment to concerned parties.

"This aims at increasing efficiency in our courts, there has been a series of complaints against court judgments," Chief Justice Chande said. Courts have been blamed for injustice, and the accusations have been directed to the executives.

Complainants have alleged that some of the court officials were less caring. Justice Chande promised the judges that those who have not benefited from the training would get a chance at Lushoto Court Management Training Institute.

He insisted that courts were a free entity but have responsibility to administer justice. The Court Service Commission is touring the Lake Zone regions of Mwanza, Shinyanga, Mara, Kagera, Geita, and Simiyu.
