Zanzibar: Police release drawing of Isles priest’s killer

Police in Zanzibar yesterday released a drawing of the person suspected to have murdered Father Evarist Mushi last month.
The suspect has not been apprehended yet but the Police Force hopes the drawing would help his capture.
Father Mushi was gunned down on February 17, as he was heading to mass at St Teresia Church at the Beit el Raas area in the outskirts of Zanzibar town. Eyewitnesses said two people riding on a motorbike called the priest by name and when he wound down the window of his car, they shot him three times in the head as he was nearing the church.
Zanzibar police commissioner Mussa Ali Mussa released the drawing to the media showing a person adorned in a skullcap mostly preferred by Zanzibar and dwellers of coastal areas.
Mr Mussa said the drawing has been constructed from accounts of various witnesses and a Sh10 million reward has been given for the person who would issue information that would lead to the suspect’s capture.
The Police report yesterday said investigations on the crime, which rocked the country, were still ongoing. Father Mushi was the second Christian preacher to be shot in Zanzibar in a space of three months. Agents from the American Federal Bureau of Investigation are said to be taking part in the investigations.
