KAMPALA: Court extends summons for UPC’s Otunnu

By BETTY NDAGIRE.

Buganda Road Court yesterday extended criminal summons against Uganda Peoples Congress party president Olara Otunnu, to June 11.

Mr Otunnu is expected to appear for plea on two charges of allegedly defaming President Museveni and ignoring police summons over the matter. Magistrate Araali Muhiirwa extended the summons after state requested for more time to implement the previous court order.

Mr Otunnu’s troubles stem from a January 16 press conference he addressed and allegedly questioned the deaths of what he called President Museveni’s allies since the Front for National Salvation’s (Fronasa) struggles to date, saying they should be investigated.

However, the presidential adviser on Media, Mr John Nagenda, dismissed Mr Otunnu’s remarks as unfortunate, and not deserving a reply. “My view is that this man (Otunnu) is mad. Trying to put this kind allegation at any person and later on, the President is totally insane.” he said.
