American 12-year-old boy arrested over sister’s death

US police officers have arrested a 12-year-old boy weeks after his sister was stabbed to death in their Northern California home.

Calaveras County Sheriff Gary Kuntz said the boy was arrested on Saturday and would be charged with homicide. 

On April 27, 8-year-old Leila Fowler was stabbed while being home alone with her brother. 

Authorities say the 12-year-old called the police before notifying his parents who were reportedly at a Little League game at the time of the incident. 

The young boy told investigators that he had found his sister’s body and encountered an intruder in the house. He had said that the intruder was tall and had grey hair. 

However, police said there were no signs of a burglary or robbery at the house. 

Following Fowler’s death, investigators carried out a door-to-door search of homes in the neighborhood for a possible suspect. 

A neighbor who had initially told investigator she had seen a man flee the children’s home, later recanted her story. 

Reports say the victim shared the Northern California house with her father, stepmother, and siblings. 

Over the past months, there has been a rise in cases involving children stabbing or opening fire on their siblings or themselves all across the US.
