4 suspected cattle rustlers lynched

Four people suspected to be cattle rustlers were killed by a lynch mob at Buhongwa suburb in the city, the police and ward officials confirmed yesterday.

The killings occurred at Nyangomango suburb in Usagara, in Misungwi District. Angered by the theft of animals in the area, wananchi seized Mafisi Mwita, one of the suspects and forced him to lead them to his accomplices who were hiding at Igwambiti Village in Buhongwa, about 18km south of Mwanza City.

Buhongwa Ward councillor Benedict Kabadi said he was informed about the killings and rushed to the scene and found three bodies. He, however, didn’t see any of the “robber” killers.

The dead were identified as Ezekiel Lucas, 27, Kusekwa Lucas, 25, Masumbuko Kisinza, 30, all residents of Igwambiti Village in Buhongwa, while the fourth body was identified as that of Mafisi Mwita, 30, a local butcher. The councillor said after ending the lives of the three, a mob of over 1,000 marched to Mwita’s butchery and killed him before the Police arrived and dispersed them with teargas.
