Kenya: Appeals court upholds Oparanya election as Kakamega Governor

The Court of Appeal sitting in Kisumu has (Friday morning/today) upheld the election of Mr Wycliffe Oparanya as the Kakamega County Governor.

The High Court had earlier ruled against Ms Mable Muruli who went to court seeking to have Mr Oparanya removed as governor.

Ms Muruli then went to the Court of Appeal to contest the ruling.

In the earlier ruling, High Court judge Mr Justice Said Chitembwe said the petitioner had chosen to forfeit her rights when she entered a consent allowing the election for the Kakamega governor’s seat to go on inspite of her name not being on the ballot paper.
