Nzega MP, 11 others arraigned for property damage, illegal demo
Nzega.
The ruling party MP for Nzega, Dr Khamis Kigwangwalla, yesterday appeared before the district resident magistrate’s court in Nzega charged along with 11 others with destruction of properties and illegal demonstration.
The prosecution told the court that the accused were charged with three counts.
The charges include causing damage to Resolute Resources Limited properties worth Sh15.9 million, holding unlawful meeting in Nzega Municipality and staging demonstrations, arguing that their action could have resulted in breach of peace.
The CCM lawmaker and the other accused are alleged to have committed the offences on March 23, this year.
They were arrested within the Resolute Mine premises while planning to damage company properties.
The prosecution named others accused as Richard Mayunga, Hamis Charles, Mr Bernard Bitus, Ibrahim Mrima, Fredrick Mbula, Peter Mandege, Razalo Shimba, Maganga Seleli, Elikana Daud, Kankoba Sululi and Luhende Shija.
However, the prosecution told the court that investigations were yet to be completed.
Presiding over the case, the District Resident Magistrate, Mr Joseph Ngomello, adjourned the case until April 9, this year, when it will come for another mention and the accused were released on bail.
